  3. AliasUndercover says:

Wow! Even easier than removing a gold one. So I guess all those warnings about them were just what I figured they were.

No one said tungten couldn’t be broken, it’s just a lot tougher than every other type of ring. It’s so hard, that it breaks while other rings just bend.

  5. CoyoteBoyUK says:

@azuldiablo08 apparently not, I know of someone who spent a night in A&E trying all manner of cutting tools without success, they eventually used the above method to remove it.

I had a tungsten toe ring that stubbornly refused to come off. It was too tight in the first place and when a small amount of fluid enlarged my toe further, it had to be removed. Following the excellent advice in this video allowed to me to quickly and painlessly free my toe from tungsten bondage and avoid any further problems. I was amazed at just how brittle tungsten really is.

I am a Fire Chief and had a person walk into the Station with Tungsten Carbide ring stuck on an injured finger. The ring cutter did not even scratch the surface. I quickly researched this on the internet and used this technique to remove the ring. It worked great and the person was very thankful. Thanks to the help of our maintenance person as well.

Nice video, planning to buy a tungsten ring but wanted to know this :)

a jeweler’s diamond saw will take care of it just as well and will not cut you, just the same as the saw used to remove casts from broken bones.

Great video – my wife was worried about this very issue. She was concerned that if I was in a car accident or something and injured my finger that the doctors wouldn’t be able to get it off since it’s so tough.

Great explanation and great results. Thank you for posting this!

  13. Dominasty says:

Thank you very much for sharing this video. I have the same exact type of tungsten carbide ring. Useful information to know.

    so tungsten IS breakable.

  16. sixstring78 says:

Very cool. I’ve been told by a couple of jewellers that nothing could be done to get the ring off if anything happened. Nice little trick.

My wife and I have tungsten rings. It is nice to know that i will not have to loose my finger if the ring ever gets stuck. Thank you.

  24. mrsting636 says:

just showing that a solid material that is brought to a moltant form bends rather than breaks. two hard as tungsten claims is a brittle material and is also refered to as a cemented carbide. ( cemented power )

  25. RDKamikaze says:

What I don’t understand are a few things:
    1. Why did you hit the platinum ring softer than the white gold ring? (look at how high his hammer goes)
    2. Is palladium stronger than platinum? It’s the main reason I watched, please answer ASAP as I’m having a ring made soon.
    3. I’ve seen countless videos of tungsten carbide not shattering under WAAAY more pressure than that , so why did yours shatter so easily? How thick was it? Mine is virtually indestructible so far.

    Thanks!!

  26. NotoriousNUGS says:

Yea just broke my tunsten ring. Hell I didn’t even smash it between two objects, just fell and hit real hard on a metal bar, shattered!

  27. rikraff says:

While I understand the appeal of tungsten – it does look pretty cool and have an interesting feel to it – this video demonstrates that precious metals can bend (so they can be sized down the road), while tungsten will break if stressed (and therefore may not be sized).

  28. chariotdrive says:

this is a great idea! no chance of the ring getting quashed onto a finger in an accident or something. Ping, hit it with something hard and its off.
