TRITON – Tungsten Ring with Sterling Silver Beaded Inlay

Goldsmith | 12/01/2012 | 0 Comments

www.tungsten-jewelry.com http Picture doesn’t do this tungsten ring justice. It is very, very nice. The center inlay of sterling silver has a really cool pattern. Notice the intricate details of the machined diamond like designs which actually catch the light and sparkle. Then the outer edges of the sterling silver have a very fine millgraining. Then the tungsten section in the middle is satin finished. But the step down edges are high polish, catching and reflecting the light again. All in all, very high style tungsten ring. At 7mm wide can be a mens ring or a ladies ring.

Can I wear an expensive silver watch with gold banded wedding rings.?

Goldsmith | 24/06/2011 | 1 Comment

Question by Janin R: Can I wear an expensive silver watch with gold banded wedding rings.?
My husband just bought me an expensive silver watch. My engagment ring is a solitaire with a gold band and I wear a simple gold wedding band. Does this clash with the watch. Should I think about taking it back? It is stressing me out as I do not even know if I can take it back and we have made a colossal mistake. This is a watch I would plan to wear everyday. I was worried that a two toned gold watch would be too over the top for my life of running around with our kids but now I am rethinking—-or ‘overthinking’.
Thanks for your input….I think I will go back to the store and look at the two toned silver and gold again. I had dismissed it before as ‘over the top’ for my life. Any thoughts?

Silver Wedding Bands ? You Do Not Have to Spend a Fortune

This article will take a look at the construction of Silver Wedding Bands. In particular we will be looking at the metals behind the creating that classic silver color. Of course traditionally your other choice would be a Gold Wedding Band but with today’s modern advancements and trends any coloured ring can be produced and may be worn by couples looking to move into marriage.

If you are set on a Silver Wedding Band you have many options not only in designs but in which metal will be used. The classic Silver metallic color can be produced by various metals and making the correct decision is critical if you want a long lasting, value for money investment. Top of the price list would be Platinum however if you cannot afford this there are many other options. Other choices include White Gold, Titanium, Tungsten and Palladium.

It should be noted that Sterling Silver is not suitable for use in Wedding Band designs. While still being a precious metal Silver tarnishes too easily and would require too much maintenance to keep it looking its best.

Platinum is said to have a white color and as such looks very nice on ones hand especially when used with diamonds in the design. In fact any Silver Wedding Band with Diamonds looks fantastic. Platinum bands are heavily weighted and while being very expensive, often twice as much as gold per ounce, these rings are very durable, strong and long lasting.

White Gold is definitely the Silver Wedding Band metal of choice. Wedding Bands will be found in 18Karot and 14Karot Gold to allow different price options. While both of these variations are quite hard and durable, gold is somewhat soft in its purest form and even these bands can be bent, scratched and dented if not taken care of. However as they are gold rings they look and feel great.

Titanium Wedding Bands are becoming quite popular especially in men’s designs. Being the hardest known element known to man, Titanium rings provide the most durable Silver Wedding Band available. Men will love the fact that these bands can take a lot and still will not bend, scratch or dent. The only limiting factor is that they are quite light and can feel a little cheap. The up side is that they are very cheap in comparison to White Gold and Platinum and they can also be coloured and combined with gold and diamonds to enhance their weight and attractiveness.

Another very hard and durable ring metal is Tungsten. Tungsten Wedding Bands have been demonstrated to be so scratch resistant that even excessive filing with a large metal file to deliberately damage them will not scratch the ring. These bands are also very cheap and can be found for less than 0. Do not think that these are cheap and nasty in any way but more of a practical design that will most likely outlive a gold or platinum band. And of course they are available in many standard and fancy designs to suit every personality.

Finally there is another choice when looking at Silver Wedding Bands. Palladium is a metal that belongs to the same family as Platinum. While not being as expensive as Platinum it looks just as bright as Platinum and feels like White Gold. This is a great alternative if you are looking for a ring similar to White Gold but cannot afford Platinum.

One more attractive feature of the Titanium, Tungsten and Palladium Bands is the fact that they are all hypoallergenic. This means that they will not cause any skin reactions or discolorations on the wearer’s finger. By being so affordable, practical and long lasting these somewhat lesser known ring metals may one day be the only choice for Silver Wedding Bands for couples looking to get married.

I got mercury on my 14k gold wedding band and now it is silver. Can a jeweler buff it back to original?

Question by Drummerwife: I got mercury on my 14k gold wedding band and now it is silver. Can a jeweler buff it back to original?

Best answer:

Answer by kirchwey
I did that (to someone else’s ring, of course) as a kid. The mercury eventually went away, with the aid of considerable hand-rubbing. That’s not recommended though, now that we know a lot more about mercury’s toxicity. A jeweler may declline buffing it for the same reason, but if he does it, it should work. Otherwise, heating (only moderately, not to melt the ring; outside; not breathing near it) should speed up the mercury’s departure. Meanwhile, don’t wear the ring! And give/sell the rest of the mercury to a scrap metal dealer!

can I wear a white gold or platinum ring with a silver one?

Goldsmith | 01/12/2010 | 5 Comments

My engagement ring is silver, with a stone. For a wedding ring, should I stick to silver, or could I get a white gold or platinum one? Would it look odd? Would they wear unevenly?
